California Periodontist Installed as AAP Secretary/Treasurer

Donald S. Clem, III, maintains a private periodontal practice in Fullerton, California.

CHICAGO–October 30, 2007—The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) installed Donald S. Clem, III, DDS, as secretary/treasurer today at its 93rd Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

Donald ClemIn addition to this appointment, Dr. Clem is also a 2007 recipient of the AAP's Special Citation Award. Special Citations are given annually by the AAP in recognition of outstanding work on an Academy committee or special project. Johnson & Johnson Oral Health Products underwrites this award.

An AAP member since 1982, Clem has served on the Board of Trustees, Planning Committee, Education Committee, Editorial Board Journal of Periodontology, President American Academy of Periodontology Foundation, Chairman for the Task Force on Periodontal Disease Management Guidelines, and many other AAP appointments.

In addition to his work with the Academy, he is also Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and past president of the California Society of Periodontists.

“Dr. Clem has made outstanding contributions to the AAP, particularly as a member of the Board. I’m sure he will continue to prepare the AAP and periodontal profession for the future as he takes on this new position,” said Preston D. Miller, Jr., DDS, and 2006-2007 AAP president. “In addition, he is being recognized for his outstanding work and dedication to the AAP in receiving the Special Citation.”

Clem received his dental degree from Loyola University School of Dentistry and his specialty training in periodontics from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio in 1980 and 1984 respectively.
