CHICAGO–October 30, 2007—The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) installed
An AAP member since 1982, Cochran has served on the Board of Trustees, as a member of the Organizing Committee for the AAP Predoctoral Periodontal Education Congress and the Task Force for Distance Learning, and has chaired the Committee on Research Science and Therapy, the Continuing Education Oversight Committee and the Task Force on Distance Learning Options.
In addition to his work with the Academy, he is also a member of the Academy of Osseointegration, International College of Dentists, American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, American College of Dentists and the Southwest Society of Periodontists.

Cochran received his dental degree and his PhD in biochemistry from the Medical College of Virginia/VCU and his specialty training in periodontics from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1981, 1982 and 1985 respectively.
