Dr. Vincent Iacono Served as AAP President in 2004-05

Dr. Iacono is chairman of the Department of Periodontics and director of the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics at Stony Brook University in New York.

Vincent IaconoCHICAGO – November 16, 2004 – The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) installed Vincent J. Iacono, D.M.D., as president today during its 90th Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla. Iacono is professor and chairman of the Department of Periodontics and director of the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, in Stony Brook, NY.

Iacono has been a member of the AAP for more than 30 years, and has served in various capacities, including as a member of the Committee on Research, Science and Therapy; Continuing Education Oversight Committee; Dental Specialty Recruitment Task Force; and the Task Force to Develop an Outcomes Assessment Program. In 2001-2002, he chaired the Committee on Constitution and Bylaws and the Finance Committee.

“I am excited to take on my new position as President of the AAP and I look forward to working with the Board to make the most of interesting opportunities in the areas of education, emerging science, liaison and other on the horizon,” said Iacono.

In addition to his work with the Academy, Iacono is a reviewer for the Journal of Dental Research; editor of Periodontal Clinical Investigations (formerly Periodontal Case Reports); a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Periodontology and a member of the editorial board for the Journal of the International Academy of Periodontology.

Iacono has also written numerous articles and abstracts and is a member of the American Dental Association, International Association for Dental Research, American Dental Education Association, Northeastern Society of Periodontists, the New York State Society of Periodontists and fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration.

A diplomate of The American Board of Periodontology, Iacono received both his dental degree and certificate of periodontics from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1972 and 1974, respectively.
