Tennessee Periodontist Completes His Term as AAP President

Preston D. Miller, Jr., maintains a private periodontal practice in Memphis, Tennessee.

CHICAGO–October 30, 2007—Preston D. Miller, Jr., DDS, completed his term as president of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) at the 93rd Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

Preston MillerAn AAP member since 1968, Miller has served on the Board of Trustees. He has also served as president of the Memphis Dental Society, the Tennessee Society of Periodontists and the Southern Academy of Periodontology.

Miller is recognized in the periodontal community for his pivotal role in diagnosis, classification and management of mucogingival conditions. In addition, he introduced the concept of periodontal plastic surgery to periodontics. He currently holds visiting faculty appointments at four dental schools and serves as a consultant to the Naval Dental School.

“My year as president was exciting and rewarding. I am confident that the new Board of Trustees will build on this solid foundation and make the most of the many interesting opportunities afforded our academy, as well as dealing with the challenges to our specialty,” said Miller.

Miller received his dental degree from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 1963 and was named the 1993 Outstanding Alumnus of the School of Dentistry. He went on to receive his specialty training in periodontics from the University of Alabama in 1969. In 2003 he was named the Outstanding Dentist in Tennessee.
