2013 Examination Dates

The In-Service Exam will be administered by U.S. postdoctoral periodontal programs according to the schedule below.

Application Instructions

Students paying for the Examination

If you are a periodontal resident registering and paying for the exam yourself, do ONE of the following by January 25:

• Complete the online application and confidentiality agreement, which requires payment of the $110 exam fee by credit card.
• Complete and mail or fax the printable application and confidentiality agreement with payment by check or credit card to the American Academy of Periodontology.

Institutions Administering the Examination

• If your program is NOT paying student exam fees, submit to the AAP either the online Program Information Form or the printable Program Information Form by January 25.
• If your institution is paying student exam fees, only fax or mail the following to the AAP by January 25:
  • The printable Program Information Form
  • A copy of the printable application and confidentiality agreement completed and signed by each student
  • Full payment by check or credit card

In-Service Examination Refund Policy

For a full refund, the American Academy of Periodontology must receive a letter by January 18, 2013, from the student’s postdoctoral director on school letterhead verifying that the student is unable to take the In-Service Exam.

From January 19 - February 9, 2013, a student or school may receive a 50 percent refund. The Academy must receive a letter by February 9, 2013, from the student's postdoctoral director on school letterhead verifying that the student is unable to take the In-Service Exam. After February 9, 2013, no refunds will be distributed.

Studying for the Examination

The Exam is comprised of 375 questions based on current and classic literature. Recommended study material includes current literature, past In-Service Examinations and other documents listed in the table below.
