IN-SERVICE EXAMINATION

This examination provides a tool for evaluating the effectiveness of programs and prepares students for the written examination for Diplomate certification.

2010 Examination Dates

February 8, 2010Application fees due in Central Office
March 15-19, 2010Examination administered by programs. Please check with your postdoctoral program director to determine the exact day and time that the exam will be administered at your institution.
March 22, 2010Examinations returned to testing agency (HumRRO) for scoring
May 3, 2010Examination results mailed to program directors

Registering for the Examination

The fee for the 2010 In-Service Exam is $100. To register, complete the Exam Application and the Confidentiality Agreement for Test Candidates Can't open this PDF page? Download Acrobat Reader and send them with payment to the address below. Students can complete the forms on their computer, then print them out and sign them. Application forms can also be obtained from program directors.

The application and Confidentiality Agreement should be mailed or faxed with payment by check or credit card no later than February 8, 2010, to the AAP office:

In-Service Examination Refund Policy

For a full refund, the American Academy of Periodontology must receive a letter by February 11, 2010, from the student’s postdoctoral director on school letterhead verifying that the student is unable to take the In-Service Exam.

From February 12 - March 5, 2010, a student or school may receive a 50 percent refund. The Academy must receive a letter by March 5, 2010, from the student's postdoctoral director on school letterhead verifying that the student is unable to take the In-Service Exam. After March 5, 2010, no refunds will be distributed.

Studying for the Examination

The Exam is comprised of 375 questions based on current and classic literature. Recommended study material includes current literature, past In-Service Examinations and other documents listed in the table below.
