Bowers Fund for the ABP Tops $1 Million

Thanks to a generous outpouring of corporate and individual gifts, the Bowers Fund passed the $1 million mark in just under a year.

At the AAP Annual Meeting in New Orleans, a surprise announcement from Joel Berg, vice president-clinical affairs for Philips Oral Healthcare, revealed the company's $250,000 pledge at the Foundation Gala. Additional Bowers Fund donors at the meeting included Straumann, which pledged $50,000 to the campaign—an amount that pushed the Fund over the $1 million mark—as well as pledge increases by Visionary Society members Dr. and Mrs. Jack Caton and Dr. Robert Ferris, and individual pledges made at the Foundation booth.

“We are most grateful for the extraordinary generosity of our corporate partners and our individual member donors,” notes the Foundation's new president, Dr. Donald S. Clem, III. “The challenge now is to keep the momentum going. It would be easy to let up, but that would be a mistake.”

The five-year, $1.5 million campaign was launched in October 2001. Interest from the fund will be used to expand board certifying opportunities, incorporate online testing capabilities, and support the financial stability of the board.
