About the Program for Dental School Faculty

Through the program, the new faculty member may expect to gain competencies in teaching and other academic skills in the context of career planning. For the private practice periodontist wishing to transition to a faculty position, the program provides the opportunity to learn about teaching and best practices, the academic environment, and career opportunities. Periodontal post-doctoral students will develop a personal professional strategy for a rewarding life-long career as a dental educator.

The program provides 6.5 days of training in two phases at dental schools. This real-life context for learning provides for large and small group sessions, interactive exercises, case-based and problem-based learning, peer observation of teaching, and reflective journals as well as mentored rotations with dental school faculty.

How do candidates apply?

The application deadline is April 30. Applicants should indicate their interest in the AAP Foundation Fellowship in their letter of application. Application is made directly to the Academy for Academic Leadership.

How are fellowships awarded?

The Academy for Academic Leadership will receive the applications and recommend periodontists to the AAP Foundation for approval as Fellows. Additional information may be found at the website of the Academy for Academic Leadership. Interested periodontists also may phone 404-350-2098.
