What is awarded?

A $10,000 one-time cash award.

Who is eligible?

Third-year students who are enrolled in an accredited U.S. periodontal graduate program and nominated by their periodontal program chairperson

How do candidates apply?

The application must be received by May 15 along with a nomination from the candidate's periodontal program chairperson, four letters of recommendation (two from professors or professionals in the field of periodontology and two personal letters of reference), and a personal statement.

What is the selection process?

The seven members of the Kramer Selection Committee include a representative of the Kramer family, a representative of the AAP Foundation Board of Directors, and others based on interest and commitment to the Foundation.

The committee bases its selection on the applicants' demonstrated personal motivation for excellence in both character and academic achievement. Personal integrity, as exemplified by leadership, community involvement, and concern for the needs of others, are also considered.

The top three candidates must attend the AAP Annual Meeting for personal interviews. The Award recipient is announced at the Opening Breakfast.
