Foundation Elects Dr. Robert T. Ferris Secretary-Treasurer

CHICAGO—October 19, 2006–The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation Board of Directors elected Robert T. Ferris, D.D.S., Ph.D., secretary-treasurer at its annual meeting in San Diego last month. Dr. Ferris has served on the Foundation’s board of directors since 2001.

Dr. Ferris was a founding officer of the AAP Foundation. He was president of the American Academy of Periodontology in 1997, where he also has been active in a number of endeavors supporting the organization and the specialty, most recently on the Academy’s ADA Liaison Committee. Dr. Ferris served as an American Dental Association delegate from 1983 to 2004. He is also a past president of the Florida Dental Association and of the Florida Dental Health Foundation. Currently, he is first vice president of the American Dental Association.

About AAP Foundation: The mission of the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation is to improve the periodontal and general health of the public through increasing public and professional knowledge of periodontal diseases and their therapies, stimulating basic and clinical research to generate new knowledge, and enhancing educational programs at all levels to create opportunities in periodontal education and practice.
