CHICAGO—December 7, 2007—Four periodontists, selected by the American Dental Education Association/Academy for Academic Leadership, received fellowships to the Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL). The AAP Foundation supported the ITL with a grant.
The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) School of Dentistry hosted this intensive faculty development program as collaborative partners. The ITL helps new dental faculty and practitioners interested in becoming faculty members elevate their knowledge and skills in areas necessary for success in the academic environment. Recipients of the 2007 AAPF fellowships were Dr. Robert A. Goldman, Dr. Y. Natalie Jeong, Dr. Stephen B. Mackler, and Dr. Preston D. Miller, Jr.
“We congratulate these outstanding periodontists on completing the ADEA/AAL Institute for Teaching and Learning,” said Dr. James Q. Swift, ADEA President, “and applaud the AAPF’s support of this important contribution to building the dental school faculty of the future.”
“We were delighted to have Dr. Goldman, Dr. Jeong, Dr. Mackler, and Dr. Miller in the ITL,” added Dr. N. Academic dentistry will benefit tremendously from the continuing contributions these ITL Scholars are sure to make as both periodontists and educators.”
