AAP Foundation Names Dr. Heather Ridgway Recipient of Kramer Scholar Award

Students in their third year of an accredited periodontal postdoctoral program are eligible to be nominated for the $10,000 award.

CHICAGO—November 14, 2005—The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Foundation recently named Dr. Heather Ridgway recipient of the 2005 Dr. and Mrs. Gerald M. Kramer Scholar Award for Excellence. At the time of her nomination, Dr. Ridgway was in the third year of the periodontal program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) Dental School. She graduated in May and will be teaching part-time at Baylor College of Dentistry and is exploring opportunities to practice in the Dallas area.

Dr. Ridgway has received numerous awards, including an Award for Excellence in Clinical Dentistry from UTHSCSA, and an Award for Scholarship in Basic Sciences from UTHSCSA. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from UTHSCSA Dental School and is in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.

The Kramer Scholar Award was established to honor the outstanding contributions of Dr. Gerald Kramer and his wife, Sylvia, to the periodontal profession. Students in their third year of an accredited periodontal postdoctoral program are eligible to be nominated for the $10,000 award. Nominations are made by periodontal postgraduate program directors. Critera for selection include academic achievement, community service and personal excellence.

The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation is dedicated to improving the periodontal and general health of the public by increasing public and professional awareness of periodontal diseases; stimulating and supporting clinical research and the generation of new knowledge; and enhancing educational programs and opportunities in periodontology. Periodontics is one of nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association.
