AAP Foundation Re-Elects S. Jerome Zackin as Secretary-Treasurer

CHICAGO – November 5, 2001 – The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation re-elected S. Jerome Zackin, D.M.D., as secretary-treasurer during its board of directors meeting in Philadelphia October 5. Zackin was first named to the post in 2000. He has served as chairman of the Foundation's advisory board since 1993 and on its board of directors since 1999.

Zackin received his B.A. with Honors and Distinction in Biology from Wesleyan University, and his D.M.D. from Harvard University, where he was obtained a Certificate in Dental Medicine (Periodontology). He held academic appointments at Harvard University from 1957 to 1963.

Until 1998, Zackin maintained a private practice in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He has held hospital appointments at Holy Family in Methuen, Massachusetts, and Lawrence General (Lawrence, Massachusetts) and currently holds honorary appointments at both institutions.

Zackin also has held numerous positions with the American Academy of Periodontology, where he served on the board of trustees from 1986 to 1992. He received a Fellowship Award from the Academy in 1994 and is also a Fellow in the American College of Dentists. Dr. Zackin has been a periodontal consultant to Delta Dental Plan of Massachusetts and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation is dedicated to improving the periodontal health of the public by increasing public and professional awareness of periodontal diseases; stimulating and supporting clinical research and the generation of new knowledge; and enhancing educational programs and opportunities in periodontology. Periodontics is one of nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association.
