AAP Foundation Presents Tarrson Research Award in Oral Plastic Surgery at Annual Meeting

The $1,000 award is for the best paper on clinical oral plastic surgery published in a peer-reviewed journal.

CHICAGO—October 1, 2006—The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Foundation presented the E. Bud Tarrson Research Award in Oral Plastic Surgery to Drs. Massimo Del Pizzo, Giovanni Zucchelli, F. Modica, R. Villa, and C. Debernardi, for their research paper “coronally advanced flap with or without enamel matrix derivative for root coverage: a 2-year study,” published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. Drs. Del Pizzo, Modica, Villa, and Debernardi are in the Department of Periodoontics, University of Turin, Turin, Italy. Dr. Zucchelli is in the Department of Periodontics, University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy.

The AAP Foundation's E. Bud Tarrson Research Award in Oral Plastic Surgery was created to support and encourage periodontal research in oral plastic surgery. It awards $1,000 for the best paper on clinical oral plastic surgery published in a peer-reviewed journal. At least one of the paper's researchers must be a periodontist or a periodontal postgraduate student.

The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation is dedicated to improving the periodontal and general health of the public by increasing public and professional awareness of periodontal diseases; stimulating and supporting clinical research and the generation of new knowledge; and enhancing educational programs and opportunities in periodontology. Periodontics is one of nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association.
