CHICAGO – October 14, 2002 – The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation elected
Dr. Zackin received his BA with Honors and Distinction in Biology from Wesleyan University, and his DMD from Harvard University, where he was obtained a Certificate in Dental Medicine (Periodontology). He held academic appointments at Harvard University from 1957 to 1963.
Dr. Zackin maintained a private practice in Lawrence, Massachusetts until 1998. He has held hospital appointments at Holy Family in Methuen, Massachusetts, and Lawrence General (Lawrence, Massachusetts) and currently holds honorary appointments at both institutions.
He has held numerous positions with the American Academy of Periodontology, where he served on the board of trustees from 1986 to 1992. He received a Fellowship Award from the Academy in 1994 and is also a Fellow in the American College of Dentists.
The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation is dedicated to improving the periodontal health of the public by increasing public and professional awareness of periodontal diseases; stimulating and supporting clinical research and the generation of new knowledge; and enhancing educational programs and opportunities in periodontology. Periodontics is one of nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association.
