What is awarded?

The AAP Foundation's E. Bud Tarrson Research Award in Oral Plastic Surgery was created to support and encourage periodontal research in oral plastic surgery, which has been identified in the AAP 2020 Vision Statement as being critical to the future of the specialty. This is a $1,000 award for the best paper on clinical oral plastic surgery published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Who is eligible?

At least one of the paper's researchers must be a periodontist or a periodontal postgraduate student. A preliminary list of candidates will be prepared from a review of all literature in the field published between July 1, 2006, and June 30, 2007.

What is the selection process?

The Foundation Board makes the selection from a list of finalists recommended by a three-person committee appointed by the AAP Foundation president. The award, along with a plaque or certificate, will be presented at the American Academy of Periodontology Annual Meeting.
