Registration opens January 5, 2010
Given the high demand of our patients for esthetic solutions, soft tissue considerations play a major role in any treatment plan today. Technological advances have made porcelain crowns and veneers more natural looking than ever before, allowing clinicians to provide such harmonious restorations. However, if the gingival framework where these restorations are placed appears less than agreeable the patient will be less than satisfied with the result, no matter how esthetic the prosthesis may appear. This program will review what is available today to achieve optimal periodontal plastic results that both our restorative colleagues and our patients expect. The presentation will focus on both the techniques and materials that will achieve optimal congruent outcomes. Where newer technologies like biologics and soft tissue substitutes might be implemented for both teeth and dental implants will be explored, along with the limits to what soft tissue only solutions can provide. The speaker will draw upon clinical experiences with both short- and long-term follow-up from his own private practice to elucidate these solutions. Educational Objectives:
About the Speaker: Kirk Pasquinelli received his doctorate in dental surgery from the University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry in 1982. He completed a one-year general practice hospital based residency at Mount Zion Medical Center in 1983 and remained on the hospital dental and training staff an additional two years while also practicing restorative dentistry in San Francisco. Dr. Pasquinelli received his periodontal training at the University of Washington in Seattle graduating in 1987. He was an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry from 1988 to 2002, and taught continuing dental education at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry from 1988 to 2000. Since 2004, he has been on the faculty of the Interdisciplinary Dental Education Academy in Foster City, California. Dr Pasquinelli continues to teach select groups nationally and internationally and has authored numerous articles in the periodontal and restorative dentistry literature. He is a member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. Since 1988 Dr. Pasquinelli has maintained a private practice in downtown San Francisco dedicated to periodontics, esthetic and pre-prosthetic oral surgery, as well as dental implants.
For both implant site development and periodontal regeneration we not only have the well documented strategies employing allografts, xenografts and autogenous grafting available, but we now have multiple molecular and cellular options available. This can reduce the need for autogenous bone grafting harvest procedures and reduce the surgical complication rate to the patient. This presentation will highlight clinical applications with these new grafting alternatives and compare them to the well researched approaches using our traditional armamentariums.
