Periodontal Coding Course & Dental Insurance Coding Workshops

Periodontal practices rely on accurate documentation and insurance coding to
ensure proper reimbursement. Understanding periodontal anatomy, such as
the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone, as well as clinical indicators
like periodontal pocket depth and clinical attachment loss helps determine
appropriate treatment and the correct CDT code or dental insurance code for
claims submission.

The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) offers comprehensive workshops and resources designed to help periodontists and dental office staff improve their knowledge of periodontal coding, insurance claims, and reimbursement procedures.

This dental coding course educates attendees about coding relevant to periodontal practice. Participants learn how to properly apply CDT codes and dental insurance codes when submitting claims for periodontal procedures such as gingival flap surgery, bone grafting, and soft tissue grafting.

Clinical indicators such as periodontal pocket depth and clinical attachment
loss help determine treatment planning and documentation requirements.

Educational Objectives

  • Participants will learn how to:
Apply American Dental Association CDT codes properly for dental insurance submission
  • Identify which procedures require documentation and attachments when
    submitting claims
  • Review coding questions during the designated Q&A session

The American Academy of Periodontology designates this activity for 2.75
continuing education credits.

The AAP cautions participants for this CE activity about the potential risks of using limited knowledge when incorporating new techniques and procedures in their practice.

serves as a specialized periodontal coding course.

Participants will receive an overview of:

  • CPT medical procedure codes
  • ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes

These codes are used when periodontal procedures are submitted to medical
insurance.

Educational Objectives

Participants will learn to:

  • Explain the structure of medical coding
  • Recognize appropriate indications for submitting procedures to medical
    insurance
  • Review the CMS-1500 medical claim form
  • Implement ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes when submitting claims
