Dr. Sottosanti will present a live lecture via an interactive webinar about findings on calculus, biofilm, and treatment modalities to enhance the dental hygienist's success in the treatment of chronic periodontitis. As a co-author of a new paper in the Journal of Periodontology, "A Re-evaluation of Scaling and Root Planing," he has a unique understanding of the challenges and rewards of definitive scaling and root planing. Educational Objectives:

  • Identify the three modes of calculus attachment to a diseased root surface and what is necessary to remove the accretions in each situation.
  • Recognize the procedures necessary to control chronic periodontal disease for the long-term.
  • Visualize calculus and bacterial invasions of cementum at several thousand times magnification.
  • Explain how the dental hygienist can impact the systemic health of the periodontal patient.
